Office Technologies: Certificate

Program Mission
The mission of the Office Technology Certificate program is to prepare students for administrative careers that require a solid foundation in information technology such as business application specialist, keyboard specialist, social media manager, graphic design application specialist, web content editor, through the use of innovative teaching methods, diverse modes of instruction, flexibility of course selections, and the inclusion of 21st century workplace skills.
Program Learning Outcomes
  1. Effective Business Communication
    • Graduates of BIT programs will demonstrate the ability to exchange ideas through correct and persuasive written statements, oral presentations, active listening, and the use of communication technologies.
  2. Collaboration
    • Graduates of BIT programs will demonstrate the ability to apply the following skills in a project environment: teamwork, time management, creative problem solving, conflict resolution, diversity awareness, customer service, and community engagement.
  3. Information Literacy/Core Technology
    • Graduates of BIT programs will demonstrate core competency in information literacy and information technology including file management, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, Web tools, information access, evaluation, and application.
  4. Discipline Specific Skills
    • Graduates of BIT programs will demonstrate appropriate mastery of discipline specific skills in one of the following areas: office administration, office technology, desktop publishing, or Website development and maintenance.

Flexible, totally online or on-campus: Design your own career path with our Certificate program in Office Technology.

This program  allows students to combine core office technology skills with business or additional computing skills. It prepares students for careers as administrative assistants, secretaries, computer application specialists or program coordinators, or for civil service office positions.

Students can customize their program based on career goals, choosing five Business Information Technology courses and another five courses in any other area.

7-week course format

SUNY Broome is now making it easier than ever to get the skills you need so you can get the job you want. Courses in our valuable Office Technologies Certificate are offered in a series of 7-week blocks, all fully online! This shorter course format gives students:

  • A balanced schedule: focus on 3 classes at a time, rather than 4 or 5 classes at once
  • Quicker access to advanced skills: progress more quickly through higher level skills in a single year
  • Job readiness: obtain powerful skillsets in an exploding industry
