Competitive Composite Score and Prerequisite Information for the Fall 2022 applicants only
Admission to the SUNY Broome ADN program is based on a student’s composite score. The composite score is calculated based on the following:
- Cumulative Grade Point Average: A student’s cumulative grade point average is based on a calculation of the student’s entire transcript or the student’s last 24 credits completed at SUNY Broome or an accredited institution. Whichever calculation provides the student the greater advantage will be used. Cumulative Grade Point Average accounts for up to seven (7) points towards a student’s composite score. Cumulative grade point averages below a 2.0 or a high school average below 74 receive no points in this category and are considered unqualified for competitive admission.
- Pre-requisite Grade Point Average*: The pre-requisite grade point average is based upon the student’s most recent two (2) attempts of each of the following pre-requisite requirements:
- High School Biology (minimum grade of 74 awarded in the course) or one of the following developmental or college-level Biology courses:
- BIO 090 (4 credits)
- BIO 131 (4 credits)
- BIO 132 (4 credits)
- BIO 117 (4 credits)
- BIO 118 (4 credits)
- High School Geometry (minimum grade of 74 awarded in the course) or one of the following developmental or college-level math courses:
- MAT 093 (4 credits)
- MAT 096 (4 credits)
- MAT 124 (3 credits)
- MAT 136 (4 credits)
- MAT 156 (4 credits)
- MAT 181 (4 credits)
- High School Chemistry (minimum grade of 74 awarded in the course) or one of the following developmental or college-level Chemistry courses:
- CHM 090 (4 credits)
- CHM 141 (4 credits)
- CHM 142 (4 credits)
- CHM 145 (4 credits)
- CHM 146 (4 credits)
- High School Biology (minimum grade of 74 awarded in the course) or one of the following developmental or college-level Biology courses:
*This means that the pre-requisite grade point average for admissions consideration to the SUNY Broome ADN program is excluded from the college’s Fresh Start policy.
Pre-requisite grade point average accounts for up to seven (7) points towards a student’s composite score. A pre-requisite grade point average below 2.0 or a high school average for these three pre-requisite subjects in this category below a 74 receives no points in this category and is considered unqualified for competitive admission.
- TEAS Exam: The TEAS exam must be taken no more than one calendar year prior to the date of application submissions. The exam accounts for up to seven (7) points towards a student’s composite score. A cumulative score below a 74 will result in no points awarded. For consideration into the program, a score of 65% must be obtained on the exam.
- Residency Status: Students are eligible for one-half (1/2) a point towards their composite score based on their residency status.
- Military Status: Students who are veterans of the Unites States Armed Forces are eligible for receiving one-half (1/2) a point towards their composite score.
Based on the above, a maximum composite score of 36 points is possible. Admission to the SUNY Broome ADN program is competitive. Composite scores are calculated for applications. Based on the number of seats available in the program for each admission period, students with the top composite scores will be extended an offer of admission to the program. Based on the diversity of applications received each admissions cycle, the cut off composite score for admissions will vary each cycle.
ATI-TEAS Exam Information
The ATI-TEAS was developed to evaluate the academic readiness of applicants to health science programs, including nursing. You may choose to take the ATI TEAS instead of the HESI A2 exam. Both examinations are ranked with the same criteria for competitive admissions. SUNY Broome is currently utilizing the ATI-TEAS remote exam option. Please familiarize yourself with the following information on how to take the exam using Proctorio – a remote proctoring platform.
How to take the ATI TEAS remote proctored exam at ATI
Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) Assessment measures your general knowledge in various content areas. Your performance indicates your readiness to begin a course of healthcare studies and is a predictive measure of your future success in the SUNY Broome Nursing program. ATI is partnering with Proctorio to virtually proctor assessments. Proctorio is a remote proctoring platform that uses machine learning to proctor students from wherever they may be. Proctorio offers a variety of secure exam settings including video, audio, and screen recording designed to maintain the integrity of the assessment and ensure uncompromised exam results.
